Working primarily in mixed media, Christine Kim creates intricate paper cuttings and drawings, carving away the boundaries between drawing, sculpture, collage, and installation. She lives and works in Toronto.

under construction.

Progress has been slow. I've been drawing lots to build new compositions. I have been adding more lace details to faces as if they're tattooed on, or maybe the faces are shifting constantly.

A building is being torn down near my studio on Bathurst - yet another condo. I like the demolition site better. The concrete slabs are hanging off of wires. I might look into more photographs of demolition. It's interesting to see buildings in deconstruction. I think I could incorporate elements like this in my drawings. I was always interested in boundaries. I like this idea of being broken or being always in a state of building.
