Working primarily in mixed media, Christine Kim creates intricate paper cuttings and drawings, carving away the boundaries between drawing, sculpture, collage, and installation. She lives and works in Toronto.

Very long day today. Building a mobile for a friend's baby daughter, hence the colourful circles cut from paint chips. I played around today with more sculptural folding of paper.
I was debating whether or not to stay with the shape of the scribble for the large paper cut outs. I like how scribbles are undervalued and often dismissed. Children often start with scribbles and indecipherable babble. I think both are important to recognize the silence before speech is uttered. I imagine a projection of text on to these papercuts. On Tuesday, I'm going to play with the more curatorial aspects of this installation: venue, lighting, sound, etc.
